As you are parking your car in the parking lot, you have probably noticed some very cute and classic bumper stickers on some of the cars. Car stickers have been around for quite some time and by the looks of things will be around for some time to come. The world saw the very first bumper sticker shortly after World War II. This sticker was flag like and was attached to the bumper with wires. The credit for the first sticker made for cars reportedly goes to a silkscreen printer who was living in Kansas. The screen printer’s name was Forest Gill. Gill replaced the use of wires with pressure sensitive adhesive. By doing so, this made bumper sticker much easier to use and bumper stickers became more widespread and practical. At the time, the first sticker was made to show support and loyalty for the troops who served in the war, and as a way to show some type of thank you them.
The first wide spread use of bumper stickers came in the 1940’s at a tourist attraction in Tennessee. Visitors who went to this location, which was near Lookout Mountain, and all visitors had a sticker applied to their car. Staff at this location would walk around and place stickers that read “ See Rock City” on all the cars in the parking lot. This has been noted to be the first use of bumper stickers. Today bumper stickers are still just as popular as ever.
As the times changed and became more involved so did the type of stickers. Today people can choose from a variety which includes the classic bumper sticker, car decals, car stickers, and decal wraps. No matter which style one choose they all stem from the same purpose. The purpose is to have your voice read and seen by many others. With so many to choose from, how does one pick the right sticker?
